Mehmet YANIK
Attorney · Mediator · PhDMehmet YANIK graduated from the Department of Public Administration at Ankara University, Faculty of Political Sciences, in 1996. He subsequently completed the required supplementary courses and obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Law. In parallel, he also completed a degree in Business Administration, earning a Bachelor’s degree in that field.
He received his first Master’s degree in Economic Policy from the Institute of Social Sciences at Gazi University. In 2003, he obtained his second Master’s degree in Business Administration (MIBE) from the Catholic University of Leuven (KU Leuven), Belgium. He later completed his PhD in Political and Social Sciences at the Institute of Social Sciences, Gazi University, with a doctoral dissertation on “Supply Security in the Economy.”
Following his graduation in 1996, he began his professional career at the Board of Inspectors of Anadolu Life Insurance S.A, a company within the Işbank Group. After a brief period there, he joined the Turkish Competition Authority in 1997 as a competition professional. In 2001, following the completion of his thesis entitled “Barriers to Market Entry,” he was promoted to Competition Expert. In 2010, he was promoted to Chief Competition Expert on the basis of his study entitled “Cooperation Agreements Between Competitors.”
Over the course of nearly 30 years, he served in numerous professional and managerial capacities, including Competition Expert, Chief Competition Expert, Professional Coordinator and Head of Department. His work covered competition-law matters across all sectors falling within the remit of the Authority’s professional departments, including preliminary investigation, research, investigations and the development of competition legislation and regulatory frameworks. In August 2026, he retired from the Turkish Competition Authority to continue his professional career as an independent competition law consultant and attorney.
He also contributed to the legislative process concerning competition law before the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye (TBMM), taking part in legislative drafting activities conducted by parliamentary committees and subcommittees. Since 2010, he has been teaching undergraduate and graduate-level courses in competition law, mergers & acquisitions at law faculties and faculties of economics and administrative sciences at various universities in Ankara.
